An a-line skirt with interesting inset panels creating an open drape at one leg. Sizes are 10 through 22 included in one pattern. The waistline is faced with a zipper opening. I used a faux suede fabric with tiny holes perforated all-over. Although this fabric works out okay I would prefer a fabric that looks the same on the backside since the wrong side of the fabric shows at the drape. See Gigi's review for good fabric choices. See the skirt with Simplicity 5255 top here. I'm amazed at how well this skirt fits at the waist with no darts. The curves of the side seams are just right to shape the waist, at least for me. I used a size 12 which was closest to my hip measurement. As you can see, the drape is over my right leg. This resulted from my cutting the fabric right side up, not observing that instructions called for the opposite. It doesn't really matter except I would prefer the drape on the left side to correspond the line of a jacket opening.

I just had to have this fabric. When I found the fabric, I knew that I wanted to make some kind of garment to wear over my long black turtleneck knit dress so I bought 1 1/2 yards, enough to be a full length column. The fabric is 72 inches wide so I had plenty to work with going around me. It is a wool knit that doesn't ravel so I didn't need to worry about that. Then I spent hours trying to figure out what to do. I searched through my patterns, the books at the fabric store and even bought a jumper pattern. What to do with all those holes? How to get around that? I decided it needed to have very little shaping or even cutting. Then the little light bulb went on and I remembered this pattern that I reviewed in December. It is just a rectangle with ovals cut for the armholes. Once that decision was made, it was a quick and simple thing to create. I used the full piece to the floor, just trimming off uneven places and cutting to fit around me. I used the selvedge on one long edge, turned and topstitched the other edges. Velcro to hold together in the front. One hour. I even have a long piece left over to make a scarf!

This is my attempt to make fleece into something fun and funky. The Neue Mode top is super quick and easy. It consists of a rectangle with the edges finished and 2 ovals cut for the arms. 2 strips of velcro are strategically placed to finish the project. The pattern calls for 2 layers sewn right side together and turned right side out. That would be even quicker to make. I chose to make a single layer because the fleece would be too bulky doubled. I also didn't have that much fabric. This garment is quite warm as it is. Since I didn't have 2 layers, I just turned the edges under and topstiched. I cut the size 2 inches smaller than my bust measurement but will make it smaller if I ever make it again. You can control the size somewhat with the placement of the velcro. You could snug up the front a little that way. But the back could be smaller on me. Be aware that there are no seam allowances on Neue Mode patterns. You add what you need. I added 1 inch around the edge to allow enough to turn and topstitch. Then I trimmed the extra close to the stitching. This would make a fun, dressy wrap for evening in velvet lined with satin.
