Hopefully I can learn from your tips and have a less stressful time. First of all I would never have made it an "easy" pattern. Any beginner would have thrown their hands up and quit after getting through the pleats on the front.

I agree with you, re. the arm placketts. Very poorly explained. These are not standard ones that you can look up in a typical "how to" sewing book. And again the arms are a mixed bag. I like that the shoulder cap is different on each side so it is obvious which part is the front and the back. It should be that way as we have more in the back than the front. But the arms are cut too thin. I take a "C" on the body and an "E" on the arms! That was a first for me. Also, beginner patterns never have a fitted shoulder like this one. I took one look at the arm and the armsycthe and there was no way I was going to attach the arm to the body before sewing it up. I used some very fancy techniques (usually reserved for tailored jackets) to atttach it but I got it. I also hand attached it for accuracy.

I decided to add more buttons. Also I ran a seam down the back, as it was baggy looking in the back waist area. Mind you I am short in the middle so that may have caused that. I do agree that the collar was confusing at first but I liked it, it is simple actually once you get it. The collar points turned out nice and sharp because of the lack of bulk too!

Well that is my 2 cents. I do like this shirt a lot so I may make another one. It should be easier the 2nd time around.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2337303862950522565.post-27267641506863014552010-08-22T13:20:51.449-07:002010-08-22T13:20:51.449-07:00You know I had one of my students do a pattern of ...You know I had one of my students do a pattern of her's recently, and it was a nightmare too. It was a basic pant pattern, but the dang thing was all twisted on her. We finally had to redraw the pattern to make it work. Wonder if something's going on here. SB is very good and knows a lot about sewing, but my fear is that Vogue is either cutting corners or not "proofing" the pattern, but somewhere something's haywire.ClaireOKChttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05794385586295229490noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2337303862950522565.post-16605049446610424712010-07-20T05:58:43.892-07:002010-07-20T05:58:43.892-07:00Yikes! Such patience and perseverance you have - or perhaps stubborness :-)

Anyway, like Gail said, alls well that ends well. I stayed away from this pattern because of those tucks. I knew I wouldn't have the patience for them.

I'm glad you are beginning to like it once again. As usual, Ann, the workmanship is beautiful.Sharon Sewshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09987831277077411438noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2337303862950522565.post-64879429521130708232010-07-20T05:48:43.501-07:002010-07-20T05:48:43.501-07:00OMG!
